How to Reset Your Planner (Without Starting Over)

Can we all agree on something?

At some point, every planner gets abandoned for a little while.

Life gets busy.

You miss a day... which turns into a week... which somehow turns into a month. The next time you open your planner, you're greeted by a bunch of blank pages and suddenly it feels easier to just... close it again.

We've all been there.

The good news? You don't need a brand-new planner or a fresh January to get back into it.

You just need a reset.

Step 1: Let go of the guilt.

This is the hardest part.

Your planner isn't judging you. Those blank pages aren't judging you either.

Life happened.

Maybe work got hectic. Maybe the kids had a million activities. Maybe you were traveling. Maybe you simply needed a break.

Your planner is a tool, not a report card.

Step 2: Turn to today.

Not last Tuesday.

Not three weeks ago.

Today.

Resist the temptation to fill in every blank page unless you genuinely want to. Most of the time, catching up becomes such a big project that we never actually get started again.

Give yourself permission to simply turn the page.

Step 3: Ask yourself one question.

"What do I need my planner to help me with right now?"

Maybe it's keeping track of appointments.

Maybe it's meal planning.

Maybe you need a place to organize your work week.

Maybe your brain just needs somewhere to unload all the things you're trying to remember.

Your answer today might be completely different than it was a month ago, and that's okay.

Step 4: Simplify for a little while.

If you've been trying to decorate every spread, track twelve habits, color-code everything, and write beautiful journal entries...

Maybe this week just write your appointments.

Seriously.

Sometimes less is exactly what gets us back into the habit.

You can always add more later.

Step 5: Make one small change.

One of our favorite things about a Traveler's Notebook planner is how easy it is to make it fit your life again.

Maybe you need a different weekly layout.

Maybe you'd love having more notes pages.

Maybe it's time to swap out an insert you never use for one you know you will.

Sometimes a tiny change is all it takes to make your planner feel exciting again.

Remember...

A planner isn't successful because every page is filled in perfectly.

It's successful because it helped you when you needed it.

We've been helping women build planners for more than 11 years, and one thing we've learned is that almost everyone has to reset their planner at some point.

The people who keep using their planners aren't the ones who never miss a week.

They're the ones who know it's always okay to begin again.

So flip to today.

Write down what's on your mind.

And welcome back. We've been saving your spot.
